Louisiana Digital Coast Initiative Partners

The Louisiana Digital Coast initiative provides opportunities to augment and expand much needed restoration objectives concerning the rebuilding of Louisiana's barrier coastline. Through this initiative, UNO is leveraging both effort and money with LDNR and the USGS to provide more data and information for the Louisiana Digital Coast data repository. Beginning in 2006, LDNR has implemented the Louisiana Barrier Island Comprehensive Monitoring (BICM) Program with science support from the UNO PIES. The BICM Program will complement other LDNR coast-wide monitoring programs such as the Coastal Reference Monitoring System (CRMS). The BICM Program has been designed to focus on the sandy barrier beaches, spits, and islands as well as the mainland shorelines of Louisiana. The goal of this cooperative effort is to develop an integrated baseline of environmental and geomorphic data for coastal restoration and planning. This cooperative effort supports the sharing of resources for developing a comprehensive monitoring program for restoration activities and strategies in coastal Louisiana.
